SOCIAL WORK WITH PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA: THEORY AND PRACTICE

Description

People with dementia experience functional decline and cognitive impairment, which makes it difficult for them to function in daily life. It is important to develop effective and individualized care for people with dementia, ensuring their safety and coordinated work among specialists. Given the progression of dementia, professionals must be capable and willing to make significant efforts to improve the living conditions and environment for people with dementia, providing meaningful daily activities, nutrition, and individualized care. Therefore, social services are not only being developed but must also be grounded in and designed with the needs of people with dementia in mind. Physical and social barriers must be removed for people with dementia, and their dignified participation in social activities must be ensured (Kristi V. Solheim, 2015).
